Billy Graham Ready to Go Home to the Lord, Grandson Says

billy-and-will-grahamBREAKING NEWS: Billy Graham’s grandson, Will Graham, has said the 95-year-old evangelist is close to going home to be with the Lord. Will Graham is the son of Billy Graham’s son, Franklin Graham. In an exclusive interview at Hosanna Christian Fellowship in Bellflower, Calif., last month, Will Graham spoke about his grandfather’s frail condition. “I saw my grandfather last week, and he is not doing well,” Graham said, according to Assist News Service. “He’s not suffering or anything. It’s just that old age has caught up to him and is sucking the life out of him.” Franklin Graham recently spoke about the declining health of his father. “My father’s health has declined quite a bit in the last few days,” Franklin Graham told the Charlotte station WSOC-TV Friday. “He hasn’t been able to get his strength back. Vitals are good. He’s just weak and at home.” Billy Graham turned 95 in November, just a month after a hospital visit for tests on his pulmonary system. He has suffered from respiratory problems for years.

Will Graham said though he can walk, he has been in a wheelchair for a long time because it is safer. “On Nov. 7 [with his “My Hope America With Billy Graham” outreach], he finished his race and up until that time, God had protected his health and gave him supernatural strength and now, the only thing left is for him to come home,” Will Graham said. “God has removed His hand of protection, and old age has set in.” Franklin Graham requested prayers for his father this week. “Our family would appreciate your prayers for him that the Lord would strengthen him. He has been so encouraged by the release of his most recent book, The Reason for My Hope: Salvation, that he immediately began work on another book about a subject that he feels God has laid on his heart. Only the Lord knows what is in store as we move forward in service to Him.” When asked how to pray for his grandfather, Will Graham replied, “I don’t know how to answer that anymore. I wish He would give him strength, but I don’t think he needs strength anymore. It’s time to go home.” Charisma

    • The world will truly lose a bright shining light of God’s love when Mr Graham goes home to be with the Lord. I pray the Lord will prepare Franklin to follow on in his foot steps as Solomon did in David’s.

  4. Thabo says:

Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
    5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
    9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With LONG LIFE will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

  5. Joe Ann Walker says:

    Can’t be soon enough.

    • Greg LaFazia says:

One has to wonder about such a statement … but in the light of eternity, for any and all of us … it won’t be! God has blessed the ministry and life of Mr. Graham. May we recognize the blessing and admire His handiwork.

    • rebecca konyves says:

What an awful thing to say- he is someones father and grandfather.

      • I believe it was harmlessly meant to imply the hope we have in going home for eternity where there is no pain, sadness, sin or suffering. There is only peace and joy and rest in our Lord and Savior for eternity. For all believers, going home cannot come soon enough!

  6. Linda schweickhardt says:

  14. zionsgate says:

Big celebration in Heaven when Dr. Graham is escorted by his guardian angels into the Presence of the Father and our LORD Jesus Christ! He’s lived a very full and fruitful life…

  15. Never went to a Billy Graham Crusade. But use to enjoy watching them on T.V. One night while I was in a bad place spiritually his words touched my heart in such a way that I knelt in front of the T.V. and prayed. The very next Sunday I went directly to the local church and publicly repeated that experience. I have ever since been a Christian loving and worshiping Jesus Christ for who he is and what he did. I have no doubt that God used the words of Billy Graham to bless and open the door to salvation for so many just as he did for me. And I look forward to the day that I can meet Mr. Graham, And I pray for the comfort and joy that only Christ can give to be his as he winds down this physical journey and awakes into that real life in the Kingdom of God.

    • Paulette says:

Had a similar experience from a Billy Graham TV Broadcast. I was but a teenager, scheduled for major bone surgery, while watching Rev. Graham was saved. The chaplain at hospital baptized me that very night.

May Gods peace & strength be yours Dr. Graham. We showed My Hope at our small church and one lady prayed to receive Jesus! Thank you for your influence in my life. I was saved at the Anaheim Crusade back in 1969. Many blessings to you as you await your home going!

  22. Theresa Melnyk says:

As you join the cloud of the faithful witnesses that have gone before you, Mr. Graham, I am sure you will hear those famous words; “Well done good and faithful servant!” I, too, watched your television specials and was affected, my memories are much happier! I can remember sitting with my grandparents watching and singing along to George Beverly Shea. I have loved Jesus since I was a wee one, now a Pastor in my life! I had the pleasure and the blessings of hearing young Will speak a few years ago when Franklin came through our area! Our earthy hearts will mourn our loss, but our heavenly family and the great cloud that has gone before you will welcome you home!! May God make your journey an easy transition! I agree, when you get to heaven and see a beautiful couple who have eyes only for each other, tell them their granddaughter said hello! Tell them I am fine and I know they watch me from above! Tell them I miss them and love them and that someday we will meet again! Blessings on your new journey, Mr. Graham, we will take it from here!!

  23. Amy Culver says:

Well done my brother. You have had a wonderful, awesome ministry on this earth. Thank you for your faithfulness and heart to tell people about Jesus. You are a lucky man to soon be at peace and see the Lord. God bless you and your family.

  26. You have won the Battle. You have finished the Race.Well done my faithful servant.God Bless you Rev. Graham.

  27. CMBeam says:

Daniel, please please don’t be scared by the gospel. I ask that you pick up your mom’s Bible and carry on where she left off. In Proverbs 3:5-6 the Word says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not unto your own understanding (read God’s Word). In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. (Inset words mine.)
No matter where you are, nor what you have done, you are a child of the Lord. He waits to teach you of the wonders of His will for your life. He has a purpose for us all. And I ask that you draw from the love, joy, peace and hope of the Lord our God. Blessings to you Sir.

    • Rhonda Goodwin says:

I think you need to read ALL of Daniel’s post… He explained the ‘fear’ he used to feel…

  28. CMBeam says:

I have both love this man and dreaded this moment, in time, most of my life. Our world is a darker place than it’s ever been.
You see, this light of our Lord Jesus Chirst, His Holy Spirit, is contained in the souls of our Father’s children. And I’ve aways felt that when Rev. Billy Graham has passed into the wonderful Kingdom Of Our Lord, this world will be a great deal darker.
The Grahams are and have been SUCH a source of ministry to our world for many years. And my heart breaks as I write a fond, but brokenhearted fare well/welcome to your true home to Rev.Graham.
To his family, I say that a heavy tourch is being passed to each one of you and to us. May we keep his light burning by ministering to the world, just as he did, until the Lord calls us, as well, to our final destination.
My love and most heartfelt wishes go out to each of you who mist stay here while you send your Dad, Grandfather, Uncle, best friend and to us your congregation, home.
As you, Billy, stand before the Lord, face to face, I would that I could hear His words to you. I can’t imagine a mortal who has walked more steadfastly in the footprings of Jesus Sir. In my best estimation, you are in the company of all the great apostiles of the old and new testaments
Until we see you again, give our love to Ruth.

  29. Akos says:

Thank you for a life well lived. Nearing the end of the race can be scary. May God give you all the strength you need!

    • CMBeam says:

Nearing the end of the race for those of us, yourself included, I’m sure, isn’t scary. It, to me, is most exciting. I hope you aren’t afraid. Be comforted by Word of the Lord where it says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Co. 2:9
We are living in a fallen world. But some day we, who love the Lord, will dwell in a WONDERFUL place for eternaty.
Again I say, please read in your Bible about heaven. And get ready for the trip of your lifetime. God is so good. God’s richest blessings to you.

  31. Brenda Bare says:

  32. Melissa Froutman says:

What a great celebration he will have and as he is received into the kingdom by his Savior he will also be greeted by a multitude of people he brought to the Lord!

  33. Lou DeCarr says:

I love this man he was preaching the word of GOD long before it became big business. Thank you Billy for being the man God intended you to be in todays world that’s a hard thing to do. You were a great farmer you planted millions of seeds for GOD to grow and there is know way that we can thank you enough but the Lord can. GOD LOVE YOU BILLY GRAHAM

  34. Adolph Lewis says:

My mother is in her nineties and just like your warrior for The Most High God she is withering away physically and mentally but very strong in the spirit. She starts praising and worshiping fervently and seems to have a vision the way she looks ahead her face resonating joy. She’s always telling her 13 children, the only service she did for her Lord is through songs…”I don’t want flowers in or on my coffin, I want song titles…Just over Yonder…I am bound for the land of Canaan…and many others. My mother continued to join choir and Kwigillingok (Quick-gill-lin-gawk) Jubilee singers until she no longer can keep up reading lyrics, notes, and beat. It was through the tireless service of the great spiritual patriarch of the Grahams our church was built 2 years ago now. The lyrics of the song “A rugged cross became His throne” has really come to life with many of us trotting behind these great men and women of The Most High God! The only hope I have for her now is waiting upon The Lord to take her home because she has completed her work in His vineyard long ago. Blessed be the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

  35. Jenilyn says:

Give him some bone broth…that will give him strength. Praying for your family and for Billy.

  36. Daniel says:

Mr. Graham, I thought it only prudent to be totally honest about my experiences with your preaching. They scared me, let me explain. You have preached many TV specials which I have been a part of, from a distance of course. Every time one of your specials was aired my mother would make me watch, I dreaded this and would try to find any excuse to be gone. She would clap her hands, sing along & speak in foreign tongues, so yes they scared me. Looking back now I remember the sheer joy you brought to her, these specials were not about trying to change me. She was sharing with me, thank you Mr. Graham for bringing my mother so much joy. God bless you & your family. P.S. When you get to the pearly gates and see an elderly woman acting like she is at a rock concert for your arrival – tell my mom thanks & I love her!!

    • Pam says:

My daddy watched Mr. Graham, when I was little, and I wasn’t really scared, but didn’t understand what it was all about. Just a couple of weeks ago, I went to go to a nearby church to get food, and they opened the church to us, and had Mr. Graham preaching to us on a big screen TV. It was an older crusade, of course, but the his words hit me strong. I sat there and had tears running down my face, because I was so depressed when I arrived there, but I felt things were going to get better after that day. You are one of God and Jesus’s miracles, Rev. Graham. Go with God, He and Jesus are waiting with open arms!

  37. Liz says:

24 years ago my husband and I took our 11 yr. old son to a Graham crusade about 30 miles from our home. He listened intently and as we walked to our car he began to beg us to come back the next night. We had not intended to but when your child begs to go to a crusade….well you take him. The next night he went forward to accept Christ . I am so grateful for the integrity of Dr. Graham. We never had to do any explaining of questionable behavior about the man who led our son to Christ.

  38. Carley Sexsmith says:

My Granny Graham use to say, listen to this man he has the voice of God in him. She never missed an airing on the radio or TV. He has been part of my life for 51 years, I will miss him.
And I disagree with his grandson, The Lord has not taken the “HAND” that has lead his grandfather way,The Lord is just repositioning to take his hand and lead him home.

    • CMBeam says:

I believe you are correct Carley. He will be led home some day, possibly soon. And all who love Jesus will be thaken by the hand and led into that glorious place one day. Prov. 3:5-6

    • Sandy says:

I agree with you Carley – God never takes his hand of protection away. He leads us as only he can. The homegoing of a precious saint is in God’s hands, not ours.

  39. B Peterson says:

Wow I thought he was dead like years ago….

  40. Tina says:

Lord we pray your very best for Billy Graham!! Amen

  41. Wilma Thompson says:

He has spent his life praying for the souls of this world.Bringing others into the family of God.I can’t imagine the reward that awaits him.And he deserves it all.Gods hand of protection will never be lifted from him.I feel he will cradle him all the way home.Oh what a wonderful thought.

  42. Carla Mohler says:

Billy Graham; Sir, you have been such an inspiration to me over the years! I used to make sure I watched you when you came on tv, even before I gave my life to Jesus! I knew I would always give my heart to Him but I was a stupid and stubborn one back then. I wasn’t willing to give up what I had or was doing, although it wasn’t anything bad per say, I just wasn’t willing. then one day it just hit me….what the heck was I hanging on to? Absolutely nothing! Nothing worth hanging onto anyways! It was shortly after I saw you again on tv the year I gave over my heart to God. Just a few days after watching, and my crying profusely as I watched it, knowing I needed to give my heart to Him that I did in fact give my heart to Jesus! Of course my life has never been the same since. I now know that it was my stubbornness that kept me from the Lord. I loved Him, always have since I can remember but didn’t realize that I was loving myself more and not God. It was Billy Graham who helped me see that I needed God in my life and his living his life for the Lord and his example help to show me the way! I thank you God for giving us this great servant to show so many what we need to do. However as sad as I am to see him slowly leave us here, I am so happy to know that he will be in the arms of our loving Jesus! And I know he is too. Sir, you have done so much for me in this life, I humbly thank you. And I give ALL glory to God, for He brought you to me when I needed to hear the true Word of God. God bless you sir! God bless!

  43. Linda Shortt says:

God has used this man in a way most preachers will never experience. He always had a clean and blameless reputation and always shared Gods Word everywhere he went. Heaven will surely be worth it all. Prayers for the family as God gently takes His servant home.

  44. Michelle says:

I will surely pray for Billy Graham he has been an inspriration in my life and I pray God will bless him on his journey to be with the Lord.May God bless each and everyone of you as you continue to spread God’s word throughout the world

  45. Melony says:

So thankful for this precious servant of God and the way God has used his life to influence and change the lives of countless (except to God) people. Praying for him and his family.

  46. Gayle McLeod says:

Will, I truly understand where you are coming from. I had my way with God for 7 years for my sick mother. I knew when he was calling her and to release that feeling of prayers to give her strength to live on. I knew when it was time to let go, and the time was upon us to let God’s work continue and take her home to be with him. She was ready, too. She was truly a good Christian woman. Her favorite song was “Amazing Grace” (mind you she couldn’t carry a tune, but she gave it all she had, with all her heart and soul). She hung onto every word your father said in his sermons as well as her fine preachers and Christian friends she was among in her lifetime. Your father was truly an inspiration to our family in his days. Both my mother and father are home with him, now. I was the only child but was so grateful for the time I had with my fine parents. My father always quoted the Serenity Prayer to me when I was growing up with every challenge I met. It helped me when my mom was so sick as well throughout my life.

You too, will know when it is time to let God take him home or you may already know. It is a good feeling once you have reached that point. May God be with you and your family at this time and always. Billy Graham is a wonderful and loving man. He has truly made a difference in this world. He will be missed. He is a true legend of Christianity.

  47. Amanda says:

“God has removed his hand of protection from off of him?” That’s certainly not the God I know!!!! God is good!!!!

That being said, brother Graham has lived a long and good life. God has been good to him and has filled his life with blessings. What a celebration it will be on the other side! God bless you brother Graham and all your family!

    • CMBeam says:

I agree with you Amanda. But I don’t think Will ment to say this exactly that way. He seems to be a matrue Christian and wouldn’t think that the Lord would ever take His hand of protection off any one of His children. But I do understand what you are saying. God’s blessings upon you and we will see one another in heaven one day.

  48. Karen Scott says:

Prayers r with u Billy Graham and for strength for ur family on letting u change worlds !!! 49. Ginny Pfeifer says:

Praying that God will call our dear brother, Billy Graham home in His time. I’m so thankful that he has been true to his calling and is finishing well. We so desperately need his light in this world and will miss him, but know we will see him again if we accept what he preached about all these years…a relationship with Jesus Christ! This world is not our home…the best is yet to be!

  50. Nathan says:

I highly recommend reading his book Just As I Am. There are amazing accounts of the hand of God leading him and protecting him as he proclaimed the Gospel. If you grew up in the 60’s and 70’s it also is a recap of world events you lived through and how they affected his ministry and his burden to do more.

  51. Jim says:

Only major figure in evangelical Christianity who has NEVER had an ethical question raised about him – INTEGRITY = Dr. Graham.

It humbled me when I realized years ago that I might not even be here if it weren’t for Billy Graham and a crusade he had at the University of Washington in the early 1950’s. Both students there, my parents first met as fellow volunteers on his evangelism team!

    • Maura Auger says:

    • Kim says:

      • I’m sorry.. I’ll pray for you..

      • Rachel says:

You really must be a sad person to come on here and leave derogatory comments. You know how much time and energy it takes to do that? You visited a link , obviously to a person you don’t like and this is what you do with your time? You will be in prayer

      • Naomi Verdugo says:

Why are you here? Just to upset those of us that think the world of Mr. Graham? Kim, some people will not make it into heaven… they will spent eternity in HELL! Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? If not, I strongly advise you to do so. I have always felt that once Mr. Graham departed from this earth that things would get really bad here and the rapture would happen shortly there after. Please give your heart to Jesus so you may one day be with us in Heaven. Prayers for you. 🙂

He has earned his rest, he has stayed true to his calling and now it is time for him to go “home” to be with the Lord. His life’s story will be a legacy for many years to come. I pray that God will be with his family.

  69. Sandy G says:

God bless this wonderful man of God who has touched so many lives! No one can decide his time to go home but his Father, but if it is time…am so happy after the life he has led that he will finally get to be with Jesus…what he lived for! If he is ready to go – I am HAPPY for him! We should all anticipate that day and can u just imagine when Billy Graham arrives home? Oh what a day in Heaven that will be! So many of us will miss him here, but I am proud and blessed, since my youth, to have experienced what this beautiful, annointed man had to offer the world through sharing the Word of God! God bless all in his family and the millions who love him – he will be greatly missed when God does call him home!

‘True Christian’ !! Do a personal inventory, before you make a fool of yourself ! You have no idea who Billy Graham is ! Not Mormon ! No political speeches, lately ! Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” ! Now,Forgive yourself !

  71. Karen Lane says:

May god be with all. I know Billy Graham is ready to go home. His work here is almost finished.. Great man Of God…

  72. True Christian says:

Wonder if the lord of the mormons is waiting for him. He totally sold out what he preached for politics in the past elections. After all Graham said Jesus is not the only way to get to heaven (not exactly what the Bible says). Shame on you Graham.

    • jamesacope says:

That was taken way out of context but you were not there to hear the full statement and so much heard these days is piced to gether for other agendas. I have heard the man preach numerous times and as a Pastor I can say he will be going home to the Lord. Shame on you for such a comment . Have you run a race anywhere as close as his?

  73. What a wonderful servant of God! Thankful to have been a Baptist minister’s daughter myself. We will see our loved ones again. Loved hearing Dr. Graham.

  74. this world will realize the hole that is left when the time comes ..I cant imagine this world without him and his PRAYERS for us…we must get on our knees and cover this family and our nation

  75. Kathy Lacey says:

Will Graham said. “God has removed His hand of protection, and old age has set in.” REALLY ARE YOU SERIOUS??!!!!!!!! Just because someone is in their old age/last years. I don’t believe God removes his hand of protection from them. I can’t believe that I read that you said that!!!!! i also can’t believe your father or grandfather would believe that either.

    • Leah Cohen says:

    • Kathy you got it right God hasn’t remove his protection on him Will Graham doesn’t know God very well sad

      • Kathy Lacey says:

        Thank you.

      • Cajun Jim says:

Ok guys…..let’s be smart enough to understand that his grandson made the comment in regards to the Lord protecting his health long enough to finish a task, and that he felt that otherwise the Lord would have welcomed him home already (because of his age and health) . Please don’t allow your apparent wonderful Christian hearts to be defensive in a way that questions the heart or character of his grandson, it’s just not your ( our) place to do that. ……….and remember, the devil has a way of twisting things up, especially on christians commenting on a Christian General that has kicked his can all over the battlefield of salvation..!!!!!

    • Easy, people! I think Will just meant that the extra, Divine strength God gave Billy Graham to get him through his big project came to an end when the project came to an end. I know he didn’t mean God totally removed His hand of protection from his grandfather, just the extra strength. Now, I think God will soon call His faithful servant home.

    • Rachel says:

      Well said sister

  76. Sandy McKeehan says:

I remember as a child, every time Rev. Billy Graham would be on TV, my father who is now in Heaven, he was a Church of God Preacher told our family to come into the livingroom and watch Bro. Graham. We were all glued to the TV. We listened to George Beverly Shea sing and Billy Graham preach. Bro. Graham always preached the truth. Never ever in my life time did I nor my family hear any thing bad about him. You are so Blessed to have him. When The Lord is ready, Billy Graham will go home. Song comes to my mind, When we all get to Heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all see Jesus we will sing and shout the victory! God Bless you and be with you during these final days.

  77. Billy Graham has been a wonderful follower for thousands upon thousands of Christians and bless his heart he deserves the Mansion our Heavenly Father has prepared for him and to be reunited with his beautiful wife Ruth that is awaiting his arrival. I have spoken his name out in my prayers for a long time now as I lay my head down to go to sleep at night. My heart goes out also to his close family and may the loving Lord be with you and remain close by your side.

So thankful for the anointing that has been on this great man of God. I can remember watching his crusades when I was just a child. When I hear him speak, every time, my spirit cleaves to ‘that sound in his voice”. I thank God for Rev. Billy Graham and I pray for God’s perfect will and that he would not suffer. I also pray for every person in his family that God will truly comfort each and everyone of you. May God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
